Waukesha Fireworks 2022

The annual Waukesha fireworks display was delayed in 2022 by rain. Instead of shooting them off on July 4, they went skyward on July 9.

And in addition to the date change, there was a location change. For many years, the city had used the local airport as the fireworks base, but in 2022 they moved to Lowell Park. Apparently, this had been the original location several decades ago.

From our house, we could always easily see most of the fireworks in the air by just walking up to the corner of our block and looking east. Would they be visible this year off to the south?

The answer turned out to be yes! In fact, the walk to see them was a little bit shorter than previous treks. Just crossing the street was good enough.

So what you see below are my first attempts at photographing fireworks. The show, in general, was nothing special. It lasted about half an hour and had very average explosions. There didn't seem to be anything unique or innovative.

It took me a little while to focus properly, but even some of my early slightly-out-of-focus pics look pretty interesting. There's a nice bokeh (look it up) effect in them.

I realize that looking at static pictures of fireworks is far from enjoying the real thing. There's no sound or motion in stills...obviously. Hopefully the next several sequences give you a bit of an idea of the motion part. Sorry, I'm not going to try to help you with the audio.

A solo shot...

I know the brilliant color isn't there either, but that's just what a camera lens does. Your eyes and brain interpret things differently.

Another sequence...

As you can see, some of the fireworks didn't make it above the treeline from my vantage point.

Another...

Is a pair a sequence?

And finally, the finale...

Hope you could imagine the multi-booms.
